the birth of woolino
The birth of a child changes your life. Being an architect and urban designer I never envisioned I would be designing baby sleepwear. However, when my first child was born, the health and safety of my baby became the most important things for me. One of the major worries I had was how to make sure he sleeps safely and comfortably through the night.
My son would never stay covered at night; he would easily kick off any covers and wake up cold. On the other hand, I was terrified to learn that blankets, as any other loose cover, are actually a risk factor for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), because they could easily cover baby’s face during sleep and potentially cause suffocation.
After doing my research on the risks of SIDS, I found that the only safe bedding option for a baby was the old-world’s invention: a baby sleep sack. However, most of the sleep sacks on the market wereeither made of poorly-breathable synthetics that could overheat the baby, which is also a risk factor for SIDS, or made of cotton, which wasn’t warm enough for the long winter months.
On the other hand, I was truly upset to find out that most of the baby sleepwear were treated with dangerous fire retardant chemicals.
I needed a 100% natural sleep sack for my son that will be free of harmful chemicals, superbly breathable, versatile, and of course, practical. I knew there was only one natural fiber that could provide it all – the merino wool.
Merino is the finest and softest wool on the planet, exceptionally breathable, it regulates body temperature, manages moisture, it is hypo-allergenic, naturally flame resistant, easy-care and durable. It is naturally perfect.
After a lot of experimenting with design,we created Woolino - America’s first merino wool baby sleeping bag! Since launching in 2010, Woolino has shortly become and remained #1 rated baby sleep sack in America and a synonym for a natural wool sleep sack.
Today, Woolino sleepwear collection also includes baby swaddles, hats, pajamas, bodysuits, pants, and other products, all made from the finest Australian merino wool. As we continue to grow our line of products we stay committed to our mission: to provide baby and toddler sleepwear that is a safe and healthy alternative for our children as well as for our planet.
