The birth of a child changes your life. Being an architect and urban designer I never envisioned I would be designing baby sleeping bags. However, when my first child was born, the health and safety of my baby became the most important thing for me. One of the new, but essential problems I was faced with, was how to help my baby sleep safely and comfortably through the night. My son would never stay covered at night; he would easily kick off any covers and wake up cold. Moreover, I was terrified to learn that blankets are actually a risk factor for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

After doing my research on the risks of SIDS, I found that the only safe bedding option for a baby was the old-world invention: a natural baby sleep sack. A baby sleep bag will eliminate the need of blankets that can easily cover baby’s face during sleep and cause suffocation.

Being raised in Europe, where baby sleeping bags are a norm, I was surprised that they were rarely known and used in the USA. Most of those few on the market were made of non-breathable synthetics, either micro-fleece or polyester, that can overheat the baby (a risk factor for SIDS), give him a heat rash, and make him sweaty and uncomfortable.

After studying a lot of different baby sleep sacks and different fabrics, I began creating different designs combining style, ease of use, safety, and comfort. I studied how various fabrics work and how they affect the delicate baby skin. Improving and incorporating different aspects from various sleep sacks that were already on the market, and using Australian merino as an ideal natural fiber, we created the Woolino 4 Season Baby Sleeping Bag!
