frequently asked questions

What is the TOG of your baby sleeping bags? Are they winter or summer weight?

Our infant sleeping bags are designed to be worn year round. Therefore, they do not have a fixed TOG. They are made from 100% natural breathable fibers – they contain NO synthetic filling. The fine merino wool lining creates a micro-climate around baby's body and helps them naturally regulate body temperature which keeps baby warm in winter and cool in summer. Compared to traditional wool, merino is lightweight and luxuriously soft as it provides warmth without the bulk. Although every baby is different, as a general guideline Woolino sleep bags are recommended to use in room temperatures 63-77F (17-25C). Simply adjust the layers of underwear or sleepwear worn beneath the sleep bag to suit the climate or the temperature of your nursery.

What should my baby wear under Woolino 4 season sleep bag?

We recommend you dress your baby in natural fibers such as cotton or merino wool for sleeping. This ensures your baby’s skin can breathe. For a comfortable nights’ sleep simply adjust the level of clothing your baby is wearing to suit the room temperature. Woolino pajamas or bodysuits are ideal for layering or to wear inside a Woolino sleep bag. The temperature in most rooms will rise and fall throughout the night and day, and the natural merino fiber has the remarkable ability to maintain your baby's warmth without overheating.

When can my baby start using Woolino sleep bags? How long will my baby fit a merino wool sleeping bag?

Woolino baby sleep bags are excellent value and are designed to fit an average size infant / toddler from 2-3 months up to two years of age. You may start using your sleeping bag at about 2-3 months of age if you feel your baby is big enough and starts to wiggle out of the swaddle easily. For safety reasons please use the under-arms snaps to adjust the fit.  Our minimum recommended weight is 12lbs or 5.5 kg.

When should I use the under-arms adjustment system?

In general, you may use the under-arm snaps for babies 3-6 months, depending on baby’s size. However, for smaller babies you may have to use them longer. Please keep in mind that the underarm snaps are to be used for safety reasons. Ensure baby's head can not easily slip through the neck opening. If it can, please continue to use the under-arm snaps until your baby meets this requirement.

Won’t wool itch my baby’s skin?

Absolutely not. Unlike traditional wool, merino fibers are much finer and softer, creating an extremely soft, fine texture. We use only superfine merino wool, which feels like silk against baby’s delicate skin. Even babies with sensitive skin and eczema can usually wear superfine merino wool without their skin becoming irritated.

Isn’t merino wool too hot for warm temperatures/climates?

Our merino wool baby sleeping bags are perfect for year-round wear, including summer. They are lightweight yet warm. Merino works to create a micro-climate around your baby’s body, gaining or losing heat as required to produce warmth in cool conditions and enhance cooling effects in warm conditions. This helps your baby regulate his/her body temperature. Woolino baby sleeping bags can be used in nurseries with room temperatures 63-77F (17-25C). Simply adjust the layers of underwear or sleepwear worn beneath the sack to suit the climate.

Why don’t the sleeping bags have sleeves? Won’t my child get cold?

Our baby sleeping bags are sleeveless to ensure air circulation around baby’s body. Babies that sleep with traditional sheets and blankets rarely sleep with their arms underneath the bedding. We recommend layering under garments to ensure your child is perfectly adapted to their sleeping environment. It is normal for babies to have cold hands and feet due to their still-developing circulation systems and it is not an indication that they are cold. Checking behind baby’s neck or tummy are better body parts to touch when determining body temperature.

How should I care for my Woolino sleep bag?

Woolino merino wool sleep bags are machine washable and are very easy to care for if you follow some simple guidelines. It is essential to use a wool approved detergent such as Woolite COMPLETE, Woolite Extra Delicates Care, or Perwoll for Wool & Delicates. Do not just assume that your normal detergent is suitable for use on wool. Please read the labels carefully because most of them are not, and they may damage or shorten the life of delicate merino fibres.  Stain removers and softeners should be avoided as they are usually too harsh.  Click Here for complete care instructions.

Do I need more then one Woolino sleeping bag?

Yes, we recommend having two Woolino baby sleeping bags. It is always useful to have a spare sleep bag when one is being washed, to keep at grandparents' place or if baby requires a quick change in the middle of the night. We offer a 10% Discount when you buy two or more Woolino baby sleep bags at the same time. Please enter code OKBYAMJ7 at checkout.

What is the length of Woolino Sleep Bags?

Baby size (3mo-2yrs) the full length from shoulder to bottom edge is approximately 35" (90cm), and toddler size (2-4yrs) is 42" (107cm) long.

What is the width across the chest?

Our baby sleeping bags are made to fit babies from 3 months through 2 years of age (sometimes even longer) so the width across the chest can vary. For a small baby the width across the chest is 9" (23cm), this is with two underarm snaps (snap fasteners) closed. For older babies you may leave the snaps open so the width ranges from 10-12" (25-28cm).

Do you also sell the toddler size sleeping bag for 2-4 yrs?

Yes! Due to the high demand from our existing customers we have just added toddler sleeping bags to our line of products. They also come in universal size that fits toddlers approximately 2-4 years old.

What is a baby sleep sack?

Used for decades in Europe, a baby sleep sack or baby sleeping bag, also called a wearable blanket in U.S.A., is a bag-like garment or covering worn by infants for sleeping. It is designed to provide sufficient warmth so as to remove the need for additional bedding when sleeping in a cot or similar product in which a child is contained.
