What is a baby sleep bag or sack?
A baby sleep bag, also called a wearable blanket or sleep sack, is a bag-like garment or covering worn by infants for sleeping. It replacing loose blankets in the crib that can cover your baby's face and interfere with breathing.
Since 2005, The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended the use of wearable blankets for safe sleep. Unlike regular blankets, a wearable blanket or sleep sack is worn over your child's sleepwear, so it won't be kicked off and baby stays covered all night. The sleep bag will become part of your child's bedtime routine, providing a sense of security and comfort.
What is the TOG rating of your sleep bags? Are they winter or summer weight?
Our 4 Season baby sleeping bags are designed to be worn year round. They are made from 100% natural breathable fibers and contain NO synthetic filling. Therefore, they do not have a fixed TOG. The fine merino wool lining helps naturally in regulating baby’s body temperature, keeping baby warm in winter and cool in summer.
Woolino sleep bags are recommended to be used in room temperatures 63-75F (17-24C). Simply adjust the layers of sleepwear worn under the sleeping bag to suit the nursery temperature. You can find our suggested dressing guidelines on the back of the room thermometer that comes with every baby sleep bag.
What is the difference between Woolino Ultimate (universal size) and Woolino Basic Baby Sleep Bags?
Both collections have same weight fabrics, merino wool lining and organic cotton outer. The differences are:
Woolino 4 Season Ultimate Baby Sleep Bag has universal sizing: 2m-2yr, underarm snaps for adjusting the size of the armholes, travel slots for use in car seats, strollers, bouncers etc., & both shoulder snaps.
Woolino 4 Season Basic Sleep Bag has simpler design: no snaps and no travel slots; it comes in traditional sizes: 0-6, 6-18, 18-36 months.
Woolino sleep bags sizing chart?
We do not recommend sizing up.The sleep bagshould be well-fitted around your child's upper body for a safe and secure fit. We suggest using our recommended sizing guidelines to find the correct size based on your child's age, height, and weight.
When can my baby start using Woolino Ultimate Baby Sleep Bags in size 2m-2yr? How long will my baby fit in this Woolino sleeping bag?
Woolino Ultimate Baby Sleep Bags provide an excellent value as they are designed to fit an average size baby from about 2 months up to 2 years of age. You may start using your sleeping bag when you feel your baby is too big to be swaddled and is breaking out of it. Please use the under-arms snaps to adjust the fit for smaller babies. Our minimum recommended weight is 10lb. or 4.5 kg.
When should I use the under-arm adjustment system?
In general, you need to use the under-arm snaps for babies up to 6 months old. However, this depends on baby’s size, so for smaller babies you may have to use them longer. Please keep in mind that the underarm snaps are to be used for safety reasons, so that the sleep bag fits snugly around baby’s upper body and doesn’t climb up baby’s face.
Do I need more than one Woolino sleeping bag?
Yes, we recommend having two Woolino baby sleeping bags. It is always useful to have a spare sleep bag when one is being washed, to keep at grandparents' place or if baby requires a quick change in the middle of the night. Please enter code BOGO20 at checkout to receive our buy one item, get one item 20% off promotion. This promotion cannot be combined with any other offer.
Won’t wool itch my baby’s skin?
Absolutely not. We use only superfine merino wool, which unlike the traditional wool, feels like silk against baby’s delicate skin. In fact, because of its softness and unique breathability, it is perfect for helping treating conditions such as heat rash and eczema.
Isn’t merino wool too hot for warm temperatures/climates?
Our merino wool baby sleeping bags are perfect for year-round wear in nurseries with room temperatures 63-75F (17-24C). Simply adjust the layers of underwear or sleepwear worn beneath the sack to suit the room temperature. Merino creates a micro-climate around your baby’s body, gaining or losing heat as required to produce warmth in cool conditions and enhance cooling effects in warm conditions.
What should my baby wear when sleeping in a Woolino 4 Season Sleep Bag?
We recommend sleepwear made of natural and breathable fabrics like cotton or merino wool. Please refer to the dressing guide we provide (also on back of your Woolino room thermometer) as general recommendations on how to dress your baby depending on the room temperature. Woolino pajamas are ideal for layering or to wear inside a Woolino sleep bag. The temperature in most rooms will rise and fall throughout the night, and the merino fiber has the remarkable ability to regulate your baby's body temperature.
How do I know if my child is hot or cold?
Please check if your baby is hot or cold while sleeping by touching her tummy or behind her neck. Touching baby’s hands and feet are not good indications of their actual body temperature.
Why don’t the sleeping bags have sleeves? Won’t my child get cold?
Our baby sleeping bags are sleeveless to ensure air circulation around baby’s chest. Babies that sleep with traditional sheets and blankets rarely sleep with their arms underneath the blankets. We recommend layering under-garments to ensure your child is perfectly comfortable in their sleeping environment. It is normal for babies to have cold hands and feet due to their still-developing circulation systems and it is not an indication that they are cold. Checking behind baby’s neck or his/her tummy will give you better indication of baby’s body temperature.
Does the sleep bag need to be washed before the first use?
It is not required to wash your Woolino sleep bag before wearing. When you wash it, please follow the care instructions carefully.
Why does wool smell when it gets wet?
There is an odor associated with wet wool, sometimes described as a "wet dog", "burned", or "perm" smell. This particular smell of wet wool is present because we use natural merino wool that has been minimally processed in order to preserve the lanolin content inside the wool.
Lanolin is naturally present in merino wool and is responsible for giving wool all of the great properties that we love: wicks away sweat, resists stains, feels soft to the touch, stays elastic, and resists bacteria and odors. Wool is a natural product. Even if you have multiple products, one may have a higher lanolin content than the other, accounting for a difference in smell.
You should not notice this smell at all when the product is completely dry. Over time, the smell will be less and less noticeable after washing as the lanolin content in the wool dissipates.
How should I care for my Woolino sleep bag?
Merino wool by nature is self-cleaning and does not need to be washed as frequently as other fabrics. To refresh and reduce washing, air the garment often.
Machine wash: Close zipper. Wash on Low, 85°F /30°C max
Use wool or mild detergent.
Line-dry clothing and blankets. Sleep bags can be tumble dried on No Heat or Air Dry settings.
How to remove stains from wool?
Stains should be treated immediately. Do not apply any form of heat, as this tends to fix most stains making them more difficult to remove. Rinse the stain immediately and thoroughly in cold water. Then, apply one of these two homemade stain remover mixtures that we recommend:
The preferred option is a mixture of liquid laundry detergent and a few drops of white vinegar. Cover the stain with the mixture and allow the liquid to sit on the stain for at least an hour. Blot the stained area gently with a cloth before rinsing thoroughly with clean water. Repeat if necessary.
Another option is a mixture of one part (1 Tsp) dish soap and two parts (2 Tsp) Hydrogen Peroxide (3%). Apply some of the mixture over the stain and let it sit for several hours. Wash afterwards as usual.
When ready to wash, check the product care tag for best results. Following our recommended care instructions will ensure the best possible wear while maintaining & prolonging the life of your Woolino.

Nice and warm, but not bulky. Insulating wool covered in soft cotton is an ideal combination. We bought a size a bit large for our grandson, but he'll be able to use it for quite some time.
Our little one has LOVED her Woolino. She’s remained warm even when the temp in our room went below 68 and the peace of mind it brings us is unmatched.
Strongly recommend this for all parents!
My LO can roll easily back and forth in this and I don’t have to worry about overheating. It zips easily and she cannot undo it herself (something I was worried about with the other style). She tends to sleep cool and wakes up at night if it’s less than 71 in her room so we may try the slumber sack or merino wool romper underneath. That’s the only reason for 4 instead of 5 starts but that’s kid dependent!
We registered for the smaller size of this sleep bag for our baby shower and a friend bought it for us. It is the best sleep bag we have. He wears it every night, it’s super soft and he doesn’t get over heated in it like he did sometimes with 100% cotton brands. It was such a good investment. We bought the next size up for when it outgrows it. It is worth the cost. We got the night sky both sizes which is a really nice blue.
We’ve been using the Woolino Classic Sleep Bag since my daughter was about 6–7 months old, and overall I really like it and do plan to buy another once she grows out of this one, either the adjustable one, foot one or blanket depending what she likes. The quality is excellent, it’s soft, and it’s held up very well with regular use.
The reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it didn’t work as an all-season sleep bag for us. During the summer, when it was especially humid, my daughter would be sweaty and feel warm even with our AC set to 70°F. We tried dressing her in lighter pajamas and even just a diaper, but she would still sweat. Eventually, I had to stop using it for several weeks until the weather cooled down.
I still think it’s a great sleep bag and would absolutely recommend it for cooler months or moderate temperatures. Just keep in mind that if you live somewhere with very humid summers, it may not be comfortable year-round despite the all-season claim.
Our 5 month old has struggled sleeping since the start. We’ve had this sleep sack for two nights and already she’s sleeping so much better!! I’m talking she’s been up over two hours a night and now it’s been 30 minutes.
Perfect size up for my super long 1.5 year old.
She’s had this 0-2yr sack since birth and we still have lots of use in it but wanted to be ready for when she does outgrow it.
Woolino sleep sacks are the best!
I love Woolino Sleep Slacks. I have 4! Two for home and two for daycare. The fabric feels high quality and I trust she's the right temperature at all times.
My baby sleeps so well in Woolino footed pajamas and sleep sack. It's winter and I turn the heat down to 66 at night, although sometimes my room gets as cold as 65°. I put baby in a long sleeve cotton bodysuit, then pjs, then the sleep sack. And baby stays warm and comfortable throughout the night. I love that I don't have to worry about my little one getting too hot. It's convenient that the sleep sack is machine washable. Mine had a factory flat and Woolino quickly sent a replacement; they have great customer service! I will for sure either size up or buy the ultimate sleep bag once she gets too big for the 0-6 month size.
My baby girl started sleeping so much better when I transitioned her to a Woolino sleep sack. The quality is beautiful and you can tell it will last a very long time. The only thing that wasn't great was that the colors were totally different than advertised in the picture but it is ok because I like the colors it came in (although prefer the colors in the description online).
Should have bought sooner. 10month old sleeps so well in this. Material is such high quality. I know this will last a long time as there is plenty of material to grow into. Love knowing he is covered in high frequency wool and soft quality organic cotton. Love love love. My next purchase with be the wool comforter his older sisters have.
Keeps my child warm. I had the 18-36 month for my older child and it wore very well so decided to get the 6-18 for my younger child since we are starting winter. He is 4 months but the neck fits him well ( see photo).
Quality is amazing. It's soft and the perfect weight. However, I bought the 6-18 month size because my 6 month old was swimming in the 2-24 month size and getting tangled when rolling over in his crib. I thought the 6-18 month size would be a little bit smaller. But it's actually the exact same size... so I'm a bit confused about that. I didn't really need a second one so now I have two that are the same size. No a huge deal, but for the price, I could have used the money elsewhere.
Love these sleep bags. Have been using them for about a week and I am super impressed. I have been loyal to another brand through both my kids but read about these and decided to give them a try after having some issues. My son is sleeping better in these and I LOVE the quality. Will be purchasing more!
Very impressed with the quality, softness, and comfort of our sleep sack. My little one fell asleep almost immediately after I put him in it for the first time. Living in a climate where the weather is constantly changing this sleep sack gives me peace of mind!
Ever since my 4.5months old baby transitioned to Woolino 4 season basic sleep bag she sleeps safe and sounds through the night. Just ordered our second one! Happy baby, happy mommy!
I got this one since I was worried the one that lasts 24 months would be too long- it's still pretty long, but I love that it will last awhile and stressing less about if baby is overheating/cold. Will likely get another.
My baby loves this sleep sack!! And I don’t have to worry about whether she is too hot or too cold, living in a climate that can have big temp swings, and no central heating or air. Thanks Woolino!
My baby loves the Woolino and seems to be very cozy! I think the wool lining has helped a lot in regulating her body temp throughout the night. Only complaint is that there is already some pilling on the inside of her sleep sack and we haven’t even washed it yet.
We’ve been using the bigger all season sleep sacks for our older son, but just bought these smaller ones for our newborn who doesn’t like to be swaddled! We love the quality of these sleep sacks and I sleep better at night knowing his temperature is well controlled.
I’ve been using the woolino sleepsacks for 4 years for both my sons and I absolutely love them! Taking the guess work out of if they are too hot or cold puts my mind at ease!
This was the perfect answer to something imbetween a cozy blanket and and a sleeper onsie. My 5mo has worn it for the last 3 nights and he's slept more soundly and for about 2-3 longer than normal! Thank the Lord, because I am exhausted lol
My daughter (2mths +) seems to love her new woolino sleeping bag. It has kept her comfortable in our apartment, which has been warm and cold lately due to some very strange weather in Vancouver. She loves having her arms out and has been cool without being swaddled for the past week or so since we got it!!
The quality of the sleep sacs are amazing. We have been using the Woolino sleep sacs for just over 4 years now. The durability is great. From kid to kid. We have got new ones for each child but still use the first ones for backups. My kids have been sleepers through the night since at least 2 months old. Not sure if it’s the sleep sac, but I’m not about to stop using them to find out! Worth the investment.
